How to Type Sinhala in Photoshop
Photoshop can render modern Sinhala Unicode when the text engine and font both support Sinhala shaping. Start with clean Unicode text and test a short line before designing a full poster.
1. Prepare the text
Create the wording in the MyFonts.lk Singlish converter and copy the Unicode result. Keep a plain-text copy beside the design so spelling and punctuation remain easy to review. Avoid Legacy text unless an existing production file specifically depends on an FM font workflow.
2. Configure Photoshop
Choose the Type tool, paste into a new text layer, and select a Sinhala Unicode font. In current Photoshop versions enable the World-Ready or Middle Eastern and South Asian text composer when Sinhala marks do not shape correctly. Restart Photoshop after installing a new font so the font menu refreshes.
3. Check shaping before export
Inspect vowel signs, joined consonants, punctuation, and line breaks at 100 percent zoom. Keep the text layer editable until approval. Export PNG for transparent artwork or PDF when vector text and print layout matter, subject to the font licence.
Unicode versus outlines
Outlining or rasterising text freezes the appearance but removes editability and accessibility. Use it only for the final delivery when a printer cannot load the font. Keep an editable source file and the original Unicode copy for corrections.
