Singlish to Sinhala Keymap Reference
Singlish is phonetic: type the sound with Latin letters and the converter produces Sinhala Unicode. The exact mapping matters most for long vowels, aspirated consonants, and joined letters.
Vowels and length
Use a, i, u, e, and o for common short vowels. Doubling commonly marks a long sound: aa, ii, uu, ee, and oo. Use the live keyboard map below the converter as the authoritative reference because a familiar spelling may not match the converter rule.
Consonants
Start with phonetic forms such as k, g, t, d, n, p, b, m, y, r, l, v, s, and h. Some uppercase or multi-letter combinations select aspirated or retroflex letters. Enter the complete syllable before judging the intermediate output.
Practice words
Begin with short known words and compare sound by sound. For example, “mama” produces a simple repeated consonant-vowel pattern. Then practise names and joined consonants. Copy the Unicode result for modern apps; use Legacy output only for a known Legacy-font workflow.
Accuracy checklist
Read the result aloud, check vowel length, distinguish dental and retroflex sounds, and verify conjuncts at word boundaries. The full interactive map on the converter page is easier to search than memorising every combination.
